I was blown away by the response that I received for the project from the various avenues that I recruited through and have had the opportunity to bring on 12 participants for the research.
Having conducted a bulk of the interviews, my primary task now is to determine the best way to transcript and code them. It’s been great to talk to several of the participants about this as they had some tips and suggestions based on their own experiences with conducting research.
As a way of documenting my workflow processes for myself and to also make them available as a suggestion for others who are trying to navigate virtually conducted qualitative interviews, I have decided to create a page where I can share information about the technical side of the transcription, cleaning, and coding of the data.

Recruitment for the study opened on November 18th. As of December 2021, it is no longer open.
As this study is for a Master’s thesis, there are limits to its scope and we are unfortunately not able to include the incredible diversity of adoptee voices that we know are out there and would love to engage with. We are specifically looking for English-speaking Chinese & Korean transracial, transnational adoptees to participate.

This project has been approved by the Behavioural Research Ethics Board of the University of British Columbia. The reference for the study is H21-03122. You can view a copy of the certificate of approval by clicking here.
